Founder & Managing Director
With a background in IT sales, Mike founded the company in 2003 and has loved the challenge of growing a business “from scratch”. Although the business is much bigger than it was 14 years ago, Mike remains involved in day-to-day activities and is committed to knowing all his staff on an individual level. When Mike’s not working, he loves spending time with his wife and 3 children. He also enjoys Golf, West Ham and skiing.
HR & Operations Director
Ashley joined Academia in 2015 with a broad range of knowledge and expertise from both large corporate and SME environments. Her focus as Operations Director is not only on driving efficiencies and customer service across the delivery of projects and business support, but she also leads our internal focus on people through our HR team and people strategy. Mum to a busy toddler and keen Springbok rugby fan, we’re still correcting her on her calling football ‘soccer’.
Mark joined Academia in 2009, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge from 15 years of experience in the Apple Solutions market. His expertise lies in business development, strategic key account management and sales. Mark is an avid sports fan with a passion for QPR and membership of England FA.
Tim is our Finance Director. With a background in IT Services and Software development he is helping to drive the company’s growth into a broader range of offerings to both our existing customer base and to new sectors. He enjoys golf and is partial to home brewing.
James joined Academia in 2010 and has since worked his way up through the ranks being promoted to Technical Manager and then becoming Technical Director in 2013. James is now responsible for Technical Services, Managed Services, Systems, eCommerce and Technical Sales. Prior to his days in the channel, he was a music and video editor and worked on 2 BAFTA Award winning animated TV series.
As part of a young and growing eCommerce team, I have been able to participate in numerous opportunities to develop the platform. As Academia continues to grow its digital presence, the eCommerce team has adapted to the needs of both the company and customers, allowing me to grow my knowledge of eCommerce. Overall Academia has given me the chance to experience various different roles and become a much more skilled employee; this resulted in me developing into a new role, eCommerce Coordinator. I have found this experience has helped me to feel both a valued and respected member of the Academia team, and as the company grows, I am sure I will be given more opportunities to succeed.
Working at Academia is both personally and professionally rewarding, I have joined at a point where the company has already established itself across the UK. However this has not diminished the drive to continue to grow and be successful, at Academia I have been equipped with the key skills to be successful in the future.
In my time at Academia, I have taken on many roles including Customer Services and Account Management. My development has been aided by the constant opportunities on offer and the encouragement expressed every step of the way. The level of trust given by management has enabled me, along with many others, to constantly challenge myself and constantly raise expectations.
In the two years I’ve worked at Academia, I’ve moved from Bids and Tenders Manager to running my own Projects Team – a sign of what can be achieved at Academia with hard work and determination, which is always highly recommended and rewarded. Yet, we’re still a close knit family; everybody knows everybody else – we work hard and play hard, together.
I have worked for Academia for the last 9 months, placed in the customer services team. The best thing I can say about working here is the staff. Everybody is friendly, welcoming and really come together as a team. We enjoy our time together both in and out of work. As a constantly expanding company, Academia can also help to open many doors for you.
