ITAD and Recycle Services

Our Lifecycle Services provide organisations with a sustainable solution for retired IT equipment, recovering materials and financial value that may otherwise be lost.

What is Lifecycle Services?

Lifecycle Services is the IT recycling division within Academia that provides organisations with a route to repurpose their unwanted technology. The lifecycle management of electronic equipment does not necessarily mean disposal, especially when considering the environmental impact of the manufacturing and end-of-life process. We offer a collection, data wiping and refurbishment service to breathe new life into IT equipment, releasing financial value back to our customers.

Benefits

Lifecycle Approach

As a company supplying new IT hardware and support services, we are in a unique position to offer an all-encompassing solution, including a sustainable strategy for device lifecycle management.

Demonstratable Carbon Footprint Saving

By re-using assets rather than recycling them, we help to reduce the environmental impact associated with the manufacturing of new electronics. For each collection of IT equipment, we provide a comprehensive carbon-saving report as standard.

High Residual Values

We offer industry-leading financial returns for working IT equipment. This can be offset against the purchase of new devices or services, reducing your total cost of ownership.

Data Security & Compliance

As a business accredited to ISO 270001:2013, our robust Information Security Management System provides complete duty of care from the collection of your used assets through to data destruction and certification. As part of our service, we use industry-leading sanitation software to ensure compliance.

Client Portal

Our Client portal provides organisations with a single point of reference for all IT assets that we collect, repurpose and recycle. This self-service portal allows organisations to review historical asset information, download inventory reports and quantify the positive environmental impact they are having by working with ourselves.

Sustainability

In recent years, concerns over climate change have led responsible organisations to review and reduce their carbon footprint, but the focus on switching to renewable energy only goes part of the way to addressing the issue. One study suggests as much as 240KG of fossil fuels, 22KG of chemicals and 1500KG of water are used in the supply chain and production of a single computer.1

When taking this into account with the potential to reduce the number of new devices manufactured outlined above, Lifecycle Services can deliver a real difference in the battle against carbon emissions. As a key intermediary in the IT asset lifecycle, we recognise that we have a duty of care to help minimise any environmental impact when assets are retired.

For every asset that we process, we plant 1 tree. Our goal is to plant 10,000 trees per annum via our Lifecycle Services, offsetting both the carbon footprint of our own operations and supporting our customers to recycle IT assets with minimal environmental impact.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens to my redundant IT equipment?

We operate a zero-landfill policy with around 85% of all collected items refurbished and repurposed. Those items that cannot be refurbished are broken down into component materials and recycled by accredited Environment Agency AATF downstream partners.

What documentation will I receive?

At point of collection, customers will receive an inventory of all equipment collected including asset transfer documentation. Once equipment has been processed, a detailed audit report, data destruction certificates and environmental impact report are issued, providing a complete audit trail.

What happens to my redundant IT equipment? What Financial Return can I expect?

This is dependent on many factors including the specification of the equipment, its age and its working / physical condition. Typically, Apple devices return the highest value with devices up to 10 years old attracting a rebate.

How long does the process take?

From the collection of goods to receipt of your audit documentation and financial return the process takes between 3-6 weeks depending on the volume of equipment collected.

Don’t just take our word for it

“University for the Creative Arts (UCA) started to utilise Academia Lifecycle Services approximately 2 years ago as part of our replacement desktop programme, which typically takes place each summer. One of the main benefits for UCA was Academia’s ability to deliver our new computers to desk, whilst at the same time taking away the packaging and old/retired computers. This value added service has been crucial at a time when internal resources are stretched. Other benefits of the service include a full inventory of our assets, certificates for data erasure/destruction and better residual valuations than some alternative WEEE disposal companies. To conclude, we are very happy with Academia Lifecycle Services and would recommend them to others.”
